Today’s train ride takes us to Velingrad, known as the “spa capital of the Balkans.” After lunch, we head to the Tsepina Fortress, perched at 1,136 m above sea level. A short hike leads us to this historic site, which has been home to a Thracian sanctuary, a medieval monastery, and later a fortified town with castles, churches, and a citadel.
Enjoy some leisure time to relax and take advantage of the town’s famous spa facilities.
Overnight in Velingrad.
This morning, we continue our scenic ride on the Rhodope narrow-gauge railway to Bansko, stopping at Avramovo Station, the highest railway station in Bulgaria and the entire Balkan Peninsula (1,267 m). From here, our support vehicle takes us to Belmeken Reservoir (1,923 m), where we stroll along the dam and enjoy breathtaking mountain views.

Return to Bansko for an overnight stay.
